About Me

For as long as I can remember I've loved to design.  When I was a kid, I spent more time building houses on the Sims than actually playing the game.  Creating complex structures with Erector Sets or LEGO were the height of my childhood.  As an adult I found my way into a job as an architectural drafter, and while this was the best job I ever had, I knew I wanted to be more.  So, now I'm back in school to seek my degree as an Architect to finally embrace that childhood love of design.  I feel this is more than a job, more than something I'm good at, but something I love.  It feels like a vocation.

Learning Philiosophy

As a person returning to school later in life, I come to this new education with a drive to learn and as much as I can.  If I'm only here to get a degree, then I'm doing this whole thing wrong.  Architecture should be for everyone.  It should be thoughtful and well intentioned.  It should be respectful to the land and people near the site.  It should keep in mind how it will impact the future.  I hope to become the type of architect that can embrace these ideals.

History

2023-2027 (expected)
Belmont University
Nashville, TN

Becoming a student once again, but this time to get the B.Arch degree I've dreamt of.  Belmont University's newly minted Architecture program is close to home, important as I have a family, and staffed with a great collection of architecture professionals.

2011-Present
Mollenkopf Design Group, LLC
Nashville, TN

I started this job as an Administrative Assistant, but was trained in house to be a Drafter.  If not for the trust and vision of the Principal, David Mollenkopf, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to get into this profession I love.

2007-2011
Various Jobs

In this interim period of my life I worked a couple different jobs.  First I worked at a newspaper, making use of my first degree, mostly as an assistant.  I helped organize, helped edit a few stories, and even had a political cartoon published.  After the company was purchased, I found myself working at Sears and doing odd jobs and IT work.  It was a time I tried many different professions out, hoping to find something that fit me and what I wanted to do.

2004-2007
Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU)

After my time at Tennessee Tech, I transferred to MTSU to be closer to family who needed some assistance.  Here I completed my degree in News Editorial Journalism.

2002-2004
Tennessee Technological University (TTU)

My first university where I began seeking a degree in Mechanical Engineering but eventually moved to Journalism as I loved to write.
